Former consumer services minister Margarett Best [http://toronto.ctvnews.ca/liberal-mpp-margarett-best-resigns-scarborough-guildwood-seat-1.1344745 announced Thursday] (June 27/13) she was resigning her seat in the Ontario legislature, becoming the fifth Liberal to quit since Kathleen Wynne became premier in February.

Sam Apelbaum was our candidate in 2011, but has indicated he is not interested in running again. Heath Thomas lives in the riding and ran in Pickering-Scarborough East in 2011.

'''July 3''' - Jim spoke to Heath and he agreed to run. Jim volunteered to help him collect signatures. Heath ran in ward 44 in the last municipal elections and plans to run again in the next municipal elections. Ward 44 overlaps Scarborough-Guildwood and Heath believes running provincially will help his name recognition.

'''July 8''' - Jim attended meeting of candidates/representatives at the RO. Liberal, PC and NDP representatives attended. Obtained wall map with polling divisions and CD with maps and Poll Index (showing streets within each poll).

'''July 12''' - Heath and Jim collected about 35 signatures at a small plaza in the riding in about 2 and a half hours in spite of the fact the plaza was not busy. The advantage was that everyone who signed lived nearby. They submitted the Nomination Papers to the RO that evening.
