Official Position on Firearms

From Ontario Libertarian Party Wiki

This is an OLP OFFICIAL POSITION. It does not have enough meat, to stand on it's own as a plank. In certain circles, these are important issues, but in others they don't get mentioned. It should have our Official Position, supporting arguments, and references. An "Our Plan" which is some form of an actionable pathfoward is necessary in order for it to be approved. One line to "end" any debate, is suggested.

Official Position[edit]

The OLP is against the wasted tax dollars being spent on the fire arms registry.

Note that the Fire Arms Registry is a federal responsibility.

Supporting Argument[edit]

  1. $X millions are spent on the registry.
  2. Criminals still get them illegally.
  3. People's freedoms are being infringed.
  4. Firearms are personal property; if they are not used to harm someone else, there is no need for the government to be involved. --Gjhagenaars 02:34, 12 June 2012 (EDT)
  5. Self Defense is an inalienable right of every person; if a weapon (from a firearm to a rolled up newspaper) is used for self defense, that is a decision that can only be made by the person who has a need to protect themselves, their family or their property. --Gjhagenaars 02:34, 12 June 2012 (EDT)
  1. Private property registration is a option. Proof of purchase (receipt)is an option. Concealed possession is an option. Private property held in privacy is an option. Self defense using all means possible is an option. Armed aggression is a criminal action and subject to victim self defense and restitution.--Neal 13:06, 12 June 2012 (EDT)
