Relevant Notes from GJ's E-mail to OLP Yahoo Groups
Was there anything in GJ's e-mail, w.r.t. Taxes?--Jeffrey McLarty 09:46, 11 June 2012 (EDT)
No, my email dealt mainly with a generic impression / recommendation on how far we should push things in public, with a strong emphasis on incremental change. I've now thrown some thoughts on the wiki along that same strategy (to be picked apart at leisure by everyone). --Gjhagenaars 11:05, 12 June 2012 (EDT)
Lots to Do
Neal needs to learn where to contribute and to discuss issues in this wiki experience. Do we pull my contributions from the prep section and place them here in the discussion section?--Neal 11:44, 12 June 2012 (EDT)

Fuel tax / gasoline tax is the closest thing we have to a user-fee model in this province to pay for public roads. Are there other examples of taxes / fees like this? The tax-on-tax (HST on fuel tax) is something that should be removed (and if we argue for user-pay/user-fee models, we should note that too). --Gjhagenaars 11:12, 12 June 2012 (EDT)
How about municipal taxes? The province rules the municipalities. --Gjhagenaars 11:12, 12 June 2012 (EDT)
Might be too low level, but could be interesting if we could find a municipality that is currently hand-cuffed because of provincial legislation. This might be an angle, to get our first person elected, if it was a big enough issue, in a municipality that covered a riding.--Jeffrey McLarty 11:15, 12 June 2012 (EDT)
I don't know how we use this, but here is a List_of_tax_forms_at_the_CRA - pretty rediculous.
And, the CRA annual report to parliament, gives us lots of fodder. here: http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/gncy/nnnl/2010-2011/prfrmnc-e/rc4425-11-eng.pdf

The government is in debt and needs more taxes from you. Are you willing to give 50% of your income and 50% of your spending to your government?--Neal 12:01, 12 June 2012 (EDT)
What are Ontario tax rates? Here is a potential source to find an answer. http://www.fin.gov.on.ca/en/rates/index.html --Neal 12:06, 12 June 2012 (EDT)
If by some freak of voters choice and our Ontario Libertarian Party won an election and we had to create, produce and present our own "Budget" for approval; How would ours be different from this one? http://www.fin.gov.on.ca/en/budget/ontariobudgets/2011/ch2h.html#c2_secH_table24 --Neal 12:17, 12 June 2012 (EDT)
