Those of you new to the Party may not know that we have held a BBQ in early May since at least 1999. Garrett Pittenger, a long time member, hosts the event with the owner of the rural property (Dr. McDonald if memory serves me) in the Caledon Hills. Nunzio Venuto, another long time member, helps to organize it and phones many of our members and inquiries to invite them and get an estimate of how many will attend, usually 10 – 20 people. We charge $15 each for hamburgers, hotdogs, drinks and watermelon and usually wind up with a small surplus.

Here is the invitation to the 2011 BBQ as published in the spring 2011 issue of Bulletin. It is held at 16812 Humber Station Rd., Caledon

Nunzio agreed to organize it again. He spoke to Garrett Feb 16 and he is happy to do it again this year. All we need to do is set the date. It is usually held the first Sunday in May (May 6 this year), since the second Sunday is Mother’s day and the next weekend is the Victoria Day long weekend. The next alternative would be May 27, which is too close to summer and we believe will get fewer people to the BBQ. (Last May 1 was a Sunday which gave us the Sunday between Mothers' Day and the long weekend for the BBQ.) The Weather is a bit iffy that early in May, but we have only encountered bad weather (rain) once or twice in the past 12 years. And Dr. McDonald has a large living room with a fireplace in case we need to take refuge.

So unless I receive serious objections, I will let Nunzio and Garrett know we want to go ahead with the BBQ on May 6, and I will include an announcement in the spring issue of Bulletin (due out in the first week of March), and on MEETUP and Facebook in April.

Regards; Jim

Update[edit]

The Executive agreed on May 6/12 as the date for the BBQ. Nunzio has been notified. He has also volunteered to phone members in the GTA and invite them to the BBQ. Unfortunately, I forgot to include it in the spring issue of Bulletin. However, I will include it in the announcements email, Meetup, our web site News page and create a Facebook event.
